Which Formula 1 constructor is based in Woking, England?

The story behind the answer

Which Formula 1 constructor is based in Woking, England? McLaren is the Formula 1 constructor based in Woking, England.

McLaren’s racing operation is headquartered at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. The distinctive facility, opened in the early 2000s, includes engineering areas, a wind tunnel, a simulator and team-support operations. Woking is part of England’s so-called Motorsport Valley, a region containing many British motorsport businesses.

The team was founded by New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren in 1963 and entered Formula 1 in 1966. Its first Grand Prix victory came at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix, while its major championship successes followed in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

A common mix-up is confusing McLaren’s headquarters with the locations of rival teams. Aston Martin is associated with Silverstone, Williams with Grove and Alpine’s modern F1 operation with Enstone. McLaren is also more than an F1 team: the wider group has competed in IndyCar, Can-Am, sports cars and other forms of racing.
