Duncan Bannatyne left the British programme Dragons' Den in 2014 after appearing on the panel for eight years.
Bannatyne joined the show in 2005, its launch year, and became one of its most recognisable investors. He built the Bannatyne Group, whose businesses have included health clubs, hotels and spas. Before becoming a prominent entrepreneur, he served in the Royal Navy and worked in several jobs, including driving an ice-cream van.
His departure came after the twelfth series. Bannatyne’s exit marked the end of a long period in which he was one of the programme’s defining dragons alongside Peter Jones and other early investors.
The eight-year period is counted from his joining year, 2005, to his departure in 2014. It should not be confused with the number of series he appeared in, since television series and calendar years do not always correspond exactly.
