Which former Dragon's Den investor created the telecommunications company Phones 4u?
Answer
John Caudwell
Answer
John Caudwell
John Caudwell created the telecommunications company Phones 4u.
Caudwell founded the business with his brother Brian Caudwell in 1987, initially trading mobile phones before the company expanded into a major British retailer. Phones 4u became a recognisable high-street and shopping-centre brand during the rapid growth of mobile-phone ownership.
John Caudwell later appeared as a Dragon's Den investor, bringing experience from telecommunications and large-scale retail. His entrepreneurial career also included the Caudwell Children's charity, which supports seriously ill children.
The company is sometimes confused with a mobile network because its shops sold contracts and handsets from multiple networks. Phones 4u was a retailer rather than a network operator. It entered administration in 2014 after losing access to network supply agreements.
