Friendship is the Mortal Kombat finishing move that lets a fighter spare an opponent by performing a humorous gesture or dance.
Friendships were introduced in Mortal Kombat II as an alternative to the series’ violent Fatalities. After winning the final round, a player could enter the correct finishing sequence and trigger a playful animation instead of attacking the defeated character.
The move became one of the series’ most recognizable examples of tonal contrast. Animations vary by fighter: some characters dance, give gifts, play instruments, or perform other comic actions. The exact presentation depends on the character and the game.
Friendships are often confused with Babalities and Animalities. Babalities transform opponents into babies, while Animalities allow characters to assume animal forms. Mortal Kombat 3 expanded the collection of unusual finishing moves with additional variants.
