Space Jam featured the Nike Air Jordan 11 worn by Michael Jordan in the 1996 basketball comedy.
The film starred Michael Jordan alongside the Looney Tunes characters in a fictional basketball contest against the Monstars. Jordan’s on-court footwear was the Air Jordan 11, a model designed by Tinker Hatfield and originally released in 1995. Its patent-leather mudguard gave it a distinctive formal-looking shine while retaining a performance basketball construction.
The movie helped connect the Air Jordan 11 with a much wider audience, including viewers who did not follow professional basketball. The black-and-white “Concord” colorway is especially associated with Jordan’s return to the NBA and the film era, although the movie also helped popularize other Air Jordan 11 colorways. Space Jam is often confused with later sneaker films and collaborations, but the 1996 original is the key cultural reference.
