C.S. Lewis created Narnia, the fictional world of his seven fantasy novels.
The Chronicles of Narnia begins with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, published in 1950. Across the series, children from our world enter Narnia, where talking animals, mythical creatures, kings, queens, and magical events shape the story.
The books are often read in publication order, beginning with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Their internal chronology begins with The Magician’s Nephew, which was published later, in 1955, and describes Narnia’s creation.
Narnia is sometimes mixed up with Middle-earth, the setting created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Lewis and Tolkien were friends, but Middle-earth belongs to Tolkien’s writings, while Narnia belongs to Lewis.
