Harry Potter and Hermione Granger attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in J.K. Rowling’s novels.
Hogwarts is a boarding school in Scotland where young witches and wizards receive magical education. Students are sorted into four houses—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin—and study subjects such as Potions, Transfiguration and Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Harry, Hermione and Ron enter Hogwarts in 1991 and are placed in Gryffindor. Their seven school years provide the setting for most of the original novels, including lessons, house competitions, Quidditch matches and confrontations with Voldemort.
Other wizarding schools appear in the wider fictional world. Beauxbatons and Durmstrang compete in the Triwizard Tournament, while Ilvermorny is a North American school described in later Wizarding World material. Those institutions are not alternate names for Hogwarts.
