Which fictional realm is ruled by Thingol and Melian in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion?

The story behind the answer

Doriath is the fictional realm ruled by Thingol and Melian in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion.

Doriath is a wooded kingdom in Beleriand during the First Age. Its king is Elu Thingol, also known as Elwë, and its queen is Melian, a Maia whose power helps protect the land. Their realm is surrounded by the Girdle of Melian, an enchantment that makes it difficult for hostile forces to enter.

Doriath is central to several major First Age stories. It is the home of Lúthien, whose love story with the mortal Beren becomes one of Tolkien’s most important legends. The kingdom also becomes entangled in the history of the Silmarils and the conflict among Elves, Dwarves, and the sons of Fëanor.

Doriath is often confused with Gondolin or Nargothrond, two other Elven realms in Beleriand. Unlike those hidden cities, Doriath is especially associated with forests and Melian’s protective boundary.
