Platform 9¾ is the fictional platform associated with the Hogwarts Express in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books.
At London’s King’s Cross station, young witches and wizards reach the platform by passing through the barrier between platforms 9 and 10. Harry first learns about this hidden entrance when the Weasley family helps him find it before his journey to Hogwarts.
The fraction makes the platform memorable because it places a magical location between ordinary railway platforms. In the novels, the Hogwarts Express departs from the platform on 1 September, carrying students to the school for the new academic year.
King’s Cross station later installed a Platform 9¾ shop and photo opportunity for visitors. The attraction is a real tourism feature, but the platform itself is fictional. The film adaptations used station locations and sets to visualize the entrance, helping make the number one of the best-known details in the series.
