Which fictional language did J.R.R. Tolkien create from Finnish as a major inspiration?

The story behind the answer

J.R.R. Tolkien created Quenya with Finnish as a major inspiration.

Quenya is one of Tolkien’s Elvish languages and is associated especially with the High Elves. Tolkien studied languages professionally and designed his invented languages with attention to sound, grammar, vocabulary, and historical development. Finnish strongly influenced Quenya’s sound and structure, although Quenya is not Finnish and cannot be treated as a direct translation system.

Tolkien also created Sindarin, another major Elvish language. Sindarin was influenced in part by Welsh and became the everyday Elvish language of many Elves in Middle-earth. The two languages are related within Tolkien’s fictional history but have different roles and forms.

Khuzdul is the language of the Dwarves, while Adûnaic is associated with Númenor. These names can be confused because Tolkien developed many languages for different peoples, but Quenya is the answer when Finnish inspiration is the clue.
