Which fictional land is ruled by the White Witch in C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?

The story behind the answer

The White Witch rules Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Narnia is the central fictional world of Lewis’s seven-book Chronicles of Narnia. In the first published novel, the White Witch has imposed an enchanted winter and claims authority over the land. Her rule is opposed by Aslan and by the four Pevensie children, who enter Narnia from England.

The White Witch is also called Jadis. She first appears in the series’ internal chronology in The Magician’s Nephew, where her actions connect her to Narnia’s creation and later history. That book was published after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is why readers may meet the character in different narrative orders.

Narnia should not be confused with Calormen or Archenland, neighboring lands that appear elsewhere in the series. The White Witch’s winter kingdom is specifically Narnia.
