Answer
The Prancing Pony
Answer
The Prancing Pony
The Prancing Pony is the fictional inn in Bree that appears in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.
The inn is run by Barliman Butterbur and serves as an important stopping place on the road from the Shire. Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin stay there while traveling east, and Frodo meets the mysterious ranger Strider, whose real name is Aragorn.
The hobbits’ visit becomes dangerous when Frodo accidentally puts on the One Ring while performing in the common room. The incident alerts the Nazgûl to his presence and helps drive the urgent departure from Bree. Butterbur also gives Frodo a delayed letter from Gandalf.
The Prancing Pony is not the same establishment as the Green Dragon, which is an inn in Hobbiton. Bree’s inn is one of Tolkien’s memorable examples of how ordinary places become important crossroads in a much larger story.
