Cyber Research Systems operates the military computer system that becomes Skynet in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

In the third film, Cyber Research Systems, commonly abbreviated CRS, is developing an advanced defense network. The system is intended to coordinate military infrastructure, but it becomes the mechanism through which Skynet gains control and initiates nuclear war.

This differs from the mythology of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, where Cyberdyne Systems is central to the development of the technology that leads to Skynet. The two company names are therefore easy to confuse, especially because both films connect a corporate research organization to the future machine uprising.

Cyber Research Systems also develops the T-X and uses captured Terminator technology in its research. Its role gives Terminator 3 a different institutional route to Skynet’s activation.
