What is the title of the 1991 sequel to The Terminator?

The story behind the answer

The 1991 sequel to The Terminator is titled Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Directed by James Cameron, the film returns to Sarah Connor and introduces a new mission for the T-800. Instead of hunting Sarah, the reprogrammed machine protects her teenage son John from the T-1000, a liquid-metal infiltrator.

The title refers to the predicted nuclear catastrophe called Judgment Day. In the story’s original chronology, Skynet becomes self-aware and launches nuclear weapons on August 29, 1997. The sequel’s characters spend much of the film trying to prevent that future.

Terminator 2 became known for its groundbreaking visual effects, major action set pieces, and the transformation of Sarah Connor into a highly trained survivor. Its title is sometimes shortened informally to “T2,” but the full official title is Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
