InGen is the fictional company responsible for cloning the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
The name is short for International Genetic Technologies, Inc. In the franchise’s novels and films, InGen develops the genetic techniques used to recreate dinosaurs and supplies the creatures for John Hammond’s planned theme park on Isla Nublar.
The story’s cloning process uses DNA recovered from prehistoric mosquitoes preserved in amber. Scientists fill gaps in the incomplete genetic sequences with DNA from other animals, especially frogs. That fictional method creates the dinosaurs featured in Jurassic Park and later Jurassic World.
InGen is sometimes confused with Masrani Global, the corporation that owns Jurassic World, or Biosyn, a rival genetics company that becomes especially important in Jurassic World Dominion. InGen’s research facilities are associated with Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, where dinosaurs were bred before being transported to the park.
