Which fictional character is the father of Eärendil in Tolkien’s legendarium?

The story behind the answer

Tuor is the father of Eärendil in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium.

Tuor is a human hero of the First Age and the son of Huor. He is raised by elves after being captured by Easterlings and later becomes closely connected with the hidden city of Gondolin. Tuor marries Idril Celebrindal, the daughter of Turgon, king of Gondolin, and their son is Eärendil.

Eärendil becomes one of the most important figures in Tolkien’s mythology. He escapes the destruction of Gondolin with Idril and Tuor, sails to Valinor, and pleads for aid against Morgoth. His voyage leads to the intervention of the Valar and the War of Wrath. Eärendil later sails the sky with a Silmaril, appearing as the Star of Eärendil.

Tuor is often confused with Beren because both are human heroes who marry into powerful Elvish royal families. Beren, however, marries Lúthien and is the father of Dior, not Eärendil.
