Which father of Damon Hill won two Formula One World Drivers' Championships?

The story behind the answer

Graham Hill, Damon Hill’s father, won two Formula One World Drivers’ Championships.

The British driver took his first title with BRM in 1962, winning four Grands Prix during the season and beating Jim Clark to the championship. He won his second title in 1968 after moving to Lotus, leading the team following the deaths of Jim Clark and Mike Spence. Hill’s championships came six years apart, an unusual span in an era when careers were often shortened by dangerous cars and circuits.

Hill was also known as “Mr. Monaco” because he won the Monaco Grand Prix five times. Beyond Formula One, he won the 1966 Indianapolis 500 and the 1972 24 Hours of Le Mans, completing what is commonly called motorsport’s Triple Crown. He remains the only driver to have achieved that feat under either major definition of the crown.

Damon Hill later became a Formula One champion himself with Williams in 1996. That made Graham and Damon the first father-and-son pair to win the World Drivers’ Championship. The answer is Graham Hill; John Surtees, Jack Brabham and Phil Hill were champions, but none was Damon’s father.
