Tom Ford launched Oud Wood as one of the original fragrances in its Private Blend collection.
Oud Wood was created for Tom Ford by perfumer Richard Herpin and became one of the best-known entries in the Private Blend line. The collection was designed as a more experimental fragrance range, allowing Tom Ford and perfumers to work with distinctive materials and concepts outside a conventional mass-market brief.
Oud Wood centers on an interpretation of oud, a fragrant material derived from agarwood, and combines it with spicy, woody, and amber-like facets. The name describes the central idea rather than identifying a single raw material used in exactly the same way across every formula or market.
The fragrance is often confused with Oud Minerale, another Tom Ford oud-related release. Oud Wood is the established original Private Blend scent with that name. Tom Ford founded his eponymous fashion brand in 2005 after earlier work at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.
