Which fashion house did Yves Saint Laurent found?
Answer
Yves Saint Laurent (YSL)
Answer
Yves Saint Laurent (YSL)
Yves Saint Laurent founded the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, commonly abbreviated YSL.
The eponymous couture house was launched in Paris by Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé after Saint Laurent’s tenure at Dior. The label became one of the defining names of twentieth-century fashion, combining haute couture’s craftsmanship with a more modern, youthful attitude.
YSL helped popularize designs such as the women’s tuxedo, safari jacket, transparent blouse, and tailored pantsuit. In 1966, the house also introduced Rive Gauche, a ready-to-wear line that made Saint Laurent’s ideas accessible beyond the traditional couture clientele.
The wrong options are other major French fashion houses, but they were founded by different designers: Hubert de Givenchy founded Givenchy, Christian Dior founded Dior, and Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel established Chanel. YSL refers both to the designer’s initials and to his eponymous brand.
