The Zegna family owns the Italian fashion house founded in Trivero by Ermenegildo Zegna in 1910.
Ermenegildo Zegna established a wool mill in the Piedmont village of Trivero, northwestern Italy. He aimed to produce high-quality fabrics and improve the surrounding community, building roads, schools, and other facilities alongside the industrial business. The company later developed from a textile maker into a luxury menswear and lifestyle group.
The Zegna family remains central to the company’s ownership and governance. In 2021, the business became publicly listed through a merger with a special-purpose acquisition company, but the family retained control through its voting structure. Zegna is therefore different from fashion houses that use a founder’s name but are controlled by a larger luxury conglomerate.
