The Oberoi family founded the Indian hotel group Oberoi Hotels & Resorts through Rai Bahadur Mohan Singh Oberoi.
Mohan Singh Oberoi entered the hotel industry in the 1920s and built a business that became one of India’s best-known luxury-hospitality groups. He acquired and developed hotels in India and later expanded the Oberoi brand internationally, emphasizing service and premium accommodation.
The group’s corporate structure includes EIH Limited, the flagship company associated with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts. Mohan Singh Oberoi’s son, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, played a major role in developing the group’s modern luxury identity. Oberoi is separate from Taj Hotels, which began with Jamsetji Tata’s hotel venture in Mumbai.
