Which family does Edward Kenway belong to in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag?

The story behind the answer

Edward Kenway belongs to the Kenway family in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Edward is the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Connor, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III. His story makes Black Flag part of a multi-generational narrative that begins with Edward's pirate career and later follows his descendants through Assassin and Templar conflicts.

Edward is not initially motivated by a clear commitment to either faction. He seeks money, status, and independence, but his encounters with figures such as Duncan Walpole and the pirate community gradually expose him to the consequences of exploiting powerful secrets. Over the course of the game, he develops into a more responsible figure.

The Auditore family belongs to Ezio's storyline, while the Frye twins lead Assassin's Creed Syndicate. The Borgias are a powerful family in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Those names are associated with important characters, but they are not Edward Kenway's family.
