The Ferrero family controls the Italian food company Ferrero, maker of Nutella and Ferrero Rocher.
Pietro Ferrero founded the business in Alba, Italy, in 1946. His son Michele Ferrero transformed the company internationally and developed products including Nutella, which was launched in its modern form in the 1960s, and Ferrero Rocher. The business later expanded through acquisitions, including the purchase of Nestlé’s US confectionery business in 2018.
Ferrero remains associated with the founding family, although Giovanni Ferrero became its executive chairman after the company moved toward professional management. Nutella is a hazelnut-cocoa spread, not a chocolate bar, while Ferrero Rocher is a separate praline product. Both brands belong to the same family-controlled group.
