Which family controls the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries, founded by Dhirubhai Ambani?

The story behind the answer

The Ambani family controls Reliance Industries, the Indian conglomerate founded by Dhirubhai Ambani.

Dhirubhai Ambani established Reliance Commercial Corporation in 1966 after returning to India from Aden. The business began in textiles and trading, later expanding into petrochemicals, refining, telecommunications, retail, and digital services.

After Dhirubhai's death in 2002, his sons Mukesh and Anil Ambani divided the family businesses. Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries, while Anil received several other businesses. Mukesh's Reliance later built the Jio telecommunications business and Reliance Retail.

Reliance is sometimes confused with the Tata Group, another major Indian business house with a long history. Tata is associated with the Tata family but is governed through charitable trusts; Reliance Industries is a publicly listed company strongly associated with the Ambani family and Mukesh Ambani's leadership.
