Which family controls the French aerospace and media group Dassault Group, founded by Marcel Dassault?

The story behind the answer

The Dassault family controls the French aerospace and media group Dassault Group, founded by Marcel Dassault.

Marcel Dassault, born Marcel Bloch, became an important French aircraft designer and industrialist. After the Second World War, he adopted the Dassault name and built an aircraft company that produced military and business aircraft. The aerospace business is now known as Dassault Aviation and is associated with aircraft such as the Mirage fighter and Falcon business jet.

The broader Dassault Group also has interests in media and other investments. Serge Dassault, Marcel’s son, succeeded him as a major figure in the family’s business empire and later entered politics. The group’s stake in the French newspaper Le Figaro is one reason the Dassault name appears in both aerospace and media discussions. Dassault Group is distinct from Dassault Aviation, the listed aircraft manufacturer, although the family’s influence connects the two.
