Which family controls Kering, the French luxury group that owns Gucci and Saint Laurent?

The story behind the answer

The Pinault family controls Kering, the French luxury group that owns Gucci and Saint Laurent.

Kering began as Pinault S.A., a timber and building-materials business founded by François Pinault in 1963. The group expanded through retail and luxury acquisitions, later changing its name from PPR to Kering in 2013. Its portfolio has included major fashion and jewelry houses.

François-Henri Pinault, François Pinault’s son, became chief executive and chairman of Kering. The Pinault family’s control is exercised through the family holding company Artémis. Kering is sometimes confused with LVMH because both are French luxury groups, but LVMH is associated with the Arnault family, while Kering is associated with the Pinault family.
