Which family controls Comcast, the media company founded by Ralph Roberts in 1963?
Answer
Roberts family
Answer
Roberts family
The Roberts family controls Comcast, the media and telecommunications company founded by Ralph Roberts in 1963.
Ralph Roberts began the business as American Cable Systems after acquiring a cable system in Tupelo, Mississippi. It became Comcast Corporation in 1969, and the company later grew through cable, broadband, television, and entertainment operations.
Ralph's son Brian Roberts became Comcast's chief executive in 2002 and has served as its chairman since 2004. The Roberts family's voting control comes largely through a special class of Comcast shares, giving the family greater influence than its economic ownership alone would suggest.
Comcast is often confused with media companies associated with the Murdoch, Redstone, or Dolan families. Its major entertainment assets have included NBCUniversal, which Comcast acquired in stages and fully owned from 2013.
