Answer
New York Stock Exchange
Answer
New York Stock Exchange
The New York Stock Exchange was founded in 1792 after New York brokers signed the Buttonwood Agreement.
The agreement was signed on May 17, 1792, by 24 brokers beneath a buttonwood tree on Wall Street, according to the traditional account. It established rules for trading securities among the signatories and helped create an organized securities market in New York.
The organization later became known as the New York Stock and Exchange Board before adopting the shorter name New York Stock Exchange. Its trading floor became one of the best-known symbols of global finance.
The Buttonwood Agreement is not the same thing as the exchange’s modern trading technology or corporate structure. It marks the beginning of the organized broker association that developed into the NYSE, whose historic building is at 11 Wall Street.
