Which exchange is the main securities market of Taiwan?

The Taiwan Stock Exchange is Taiwan’s main securities market.

The exchange was established in 1961 and is based in Taipei, Taiwan’s political and financial center. It provides the principal marketplace for trading shares of many major Taiwanese companies, including firms in the electronics and semiconductor industries.

Its widely followed benchmark is the Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index, commonly called the TAIEX. The index is capitalization-weighted, so companies with larger market values have greater influence on its movements.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange is sometimes confused with the Taipei Exchange. Both are important Taiwanese markets, but they serve different listing and trading roles. The Taiwan Stock Exchange is generally associated with the main board, while the Taipei Exchange operates separate markets, including an over-the-counter market and an emerging-stock market.
