Which exchange is Hong Kong’s main securities market and is operated by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing?
Answer
Hong Kong Stock Exchange
Answer
Hong Kong Stock Exchange
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is Hong Kong’s main securities market and is operated by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing.
The exchange’s institutional history reaches back to the Association of Stockbrokers in Hong Kong, founded in 1891. It later became the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, and in 2000 it merged with the Hong Kong Futures Exchange and Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company to form Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, commonly called HKEX.
Hong Kong’s market is internationally important because it connects investors with companies from Hong Kong, mainland China, and other economies. Its listing system has supported major initial public offerings and provides a widely used route for international investment in Chinese businesses.
The Hong Kong Stock Exchange should not be confused with the Shanghai or Shenzhen stock exchanges. Those are mainland Chinese exchanges, whereas Hong Kong operates under its own market and legal framework.
