Thierno Barry scored Everton’s second goal after half-time in their 2–0 victory over Crystal Palace during the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Everton defeated Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium on 22 August 2026. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored before the interval, and Barry added the second goal after half-time to secure Everton’s first opening-match victory in five years.
The result was also Everton’s first victory in eight top-flight matches. Harrison Armstrong, a 19-year-old midfielder, was praised for his performance in the match.
Crystal Palace began the season under new manager Pierre Sage. Their afternoon was made more difficult when defender Chadi Riad was carried off on a stretcher with an apparent knee injury. Everton’s win therefore combined a clean sheet, two different scorers and a significant improvement in their recent league form.
