Minsk is the European capital containing the National Library of Belarus, a diamond-shaped building completed in 2006.
The National Library of Belarus stands in the Vostok district of Minsk. Its unusual main form is a rhombicuboctahedron, a geometric solid with triangular and square faces. The design was developed by architects Viktor Kramarenko and Mikhail Vinogradov, and the building opened in 2006.
The structure combines library facilities with exhibition areas, conference spaces, and an observation platform. Its illuminated exterior can display changing patterns after dark, making it one of Minsk’s most distinctive modern landmarks.
Minsk is the capital and largest city of Belarus. It was heavily damaged during the Second World War and rebuilt afterward in a monumental Soviet style. The city lies on the Svislach River and has served as the political centre of Belarus since the country became independent in 1991.
