Prague is the European capital containing the medieval Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock.
Prague’s Old Town Square lies in the historic center of the Czech capital. The square is bordered by buildings from several periods, including the Old Town Hall, whose tower carries the famous Prague Astronomical Clock, known locally as the Orloj.
The clock was installed on the Old Town Hall in 1410, making it one of the oldest astronomical clocks still operating. It shows astronomical information as well as the time and includes moving figures that appear during its hourly display.
The clock is not the same landmark as Prague Castle or Charles Bridge, although all three are major attractions in the city. Prague’s historic center also preserves Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and later architecture within a compact urban area.
