Shaun Pulfrey pitched the Tangle Teezer detangling hairbrush on the British programme Dragon's Den.
Pulfrey was a professional hairdresser and developed the product after identifying a problem with brushing tangled hair. He first pitched an early version, then known as Hair, to the dragons in 2007, but did not secure an investment deal. The product was subsequently refined and launched under the Tangle Teezer name.
Tangle Teezer later became an international hair-care brand, selling brushes designed to remove knots with less pulling than conventional brushes. Its growth is often cited as an example of a business that succeeded after a television pitch ended without funding.
This story is commonly mixed up with products that received deals on the programme. Pulfrey's pitch is notable precisely because the business became successful despite leaving the den without an agreement from the panel.
