Deborah Meaden joined Dragons' Den as an investor in 2006 and became one of its longest-serving Dragons.
Meaden is an English businesswoman and investor who joined the BBC programme for its third series. She became known for direct questioning, attention to financial detail and investments across a range of consumer and service businesses. Her arrival followed the departure of Rachel Elnaugh from the original panel.
Meaden’s business career includes work in family entertainment and leisure, and she later became one of the programme’s most recognizable investors. Her role is sometimes confused with Elnaugh’s because both are prominent female Dragons, but they joined at different points in the show’s history.
As a Dragon, Meaden assesses the entrepreneur’s requested valuation, business performance and proposed equity. A televised agreement is not automatically the end of the process: investments are commonly subject to further checks and negotiations after filming.
