Which entrepreneur founded Crafter’s Companion in 2005 before becoming a Dragon on BBC’s Dragon’s Den?

The story behind the answer

Sara Davies founded Crafter’s Companion in 2005 before becoming a Dragon on BBC’s Dragon’s Den.

Davies started the company while studying at the University of York. Her first product was a craft-tool device designed to help make envelopes to fit handmade cards. She developed the idea after seeing a demonstration of a similar tool in the United States and recognising a gap in the United Kingdom market.

Crafter’s Companion grew from a student business into an international craft-supplies company selling tools, papers, accessories and digital products. Davies became known for combining product development with direct-response television and online retail.

She joined the Dragon’s Den panel in 2019, making her one of the programme’s later permanent investors. The company’s founding date is sometimes confused with Davies’s television debut, but Crafter’s Companion had already been operating for about fourteen years when she first appeared as a Dragon.
