Shaun Pulfrey created Tangle Teezer and pitched the product on the British series Dragon's Den.
Pulfrey developed the hairbrush after working as a hair colourist and observing how difficult it could be to remove tangles without pulling or damaging hair. The product used rows of flexible teeth arranged to move through tangled hair in a distinctive way.
His Dragon's Den appearance helped bring attention to the invention, although the pitch did not immediately produce the investment outcome he wanted. Tangle Teezer later became an international retail brand, sold through salons, shops and online outlets.
The programme is often remembered as a shortcut to success, but Tangle Teezer illustrates the longer path many applicants take. A pitch can provide publicity even when negotiations do not result in a completed Dragon's investment.
