Rachel Elnaugh became the first female Dragon on the UK television show Dragon's Den.
Elnaugh joined the original panel when the programme launched in 2005. She was already known as the founder of Red Letter Days, a company selling experience gifts such as driving days, flights and adventure activities.
Her appearance helped establish the show's early format, alongside Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe. Elnaugh left the panel after the second series, and Deborah Meaden later became one of the programme's most prominent female investors.
A common mix-up is confusing the first female Dragon with the longest-serving female Dragon. Those are different distinctions: Elnaugh was first, while Meaden became the enduring regular most associated with the role. Red Letter Days also became part of the show's business folklore after financial difficulties led to its sale in 2005.
