Alan Sugar appeared as a Dragon on Dragons' Den after founding Amstrad.
Sugar founded Amstrad in 1968, initially developing and selling consumer electronics. The company became especially well known for home computers, satellite television equipment and other mass-market technology products.
He joined the British Dragons' Den panel in 2007, bringing a long-established manufacturing and business background to the programme. Unlike many Dragons who built businesses in newer consumer sectors, Sugar was already famous to British audiences as a major technology entrepreneur.
Sugar is sometimes confused with fellow British business personalities who appeared in other investment programmes. His best-known television role outside Dragons' Den is as Lord Sugar in The Apprentice. The Amstrad connection is the identifying fact linking him to this question.
