Which English king was reigning when Joan of Arc was executed?

The story behind the answer

Henry VI was the English king reigning when Joan of Arc was executed in 1431.

Henry VI had become king as an infant after the death of his father, Henry V, in 1422. During Joan’s lifetime, England’s government was effectively managed by regents and powerful nobles because Henry was still a child. His claim to the French throne was central to the conflict of the Hundred Years’ War.

The Treaty of Troyes of 1420 had recognized Henry V and his heirs as successors to the French throne after the death of Charles VI. Henry VI inherited that claim, while Charles VII claimed the French crown for the Valois dynasty. Joan’s campaigns helped Charles reach his coronation at Reims in 1429.

When Joan was executed at Rouen in 1431, Henry VI was still a minor. He was crowned king of England in 1429 and crowned king of France at Paris in 1431, though the Valois monarchy eventually prevailed.
