Elton John's first double LP was Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, released in 1973.

The album was issued on 5 October 1973 and became the seventh studio album of John's career. It was recorded in just two weeks at the Château d'Hérouville in France, after an earlier attempt to record in Jamaica was abandoned.

John and lyricist Bernie Taupin wrote 22 songs during the creative period, with 18 included on the finished album. That unusually large collection of material led to the double-album format. The record includes “Bennie and the Jets,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting,” and its title track.

It is sometimes confused with Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player or Caribou, two other major Elton John albums from the same era. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was his best-selling studio album and topped the charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
