Which electronics company was founded by Alan Sugar, the long-serving Dragon on the UK show Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Alan Sugar, a Dragon on the UK television show Dragon's Den, founded the electronics company Amstrad.

Sugar established Amstrad in 1968; the name came from his initials, A.M.S., and the word trading. The company initially sold electronic goods and later became particularly well known for affordable hi-fi equipment, satellite television hardware and home computers.

Amstrad expanded rapidly during the 1980s. Its CPC range became a major European home-computer brand, competing with systems such as the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. The company also produced the Amstrad PCW word processor and introduced the GX4000 console.

Sugar joined Dragon's Den as Lord Sugar, using his experience as an entrepreneur and investor to assess contestants' business pitches. Amstrad is sometimes confused with Sugar's later business interests, but it was the company he founded and led to prominence.
