Which drummer became a longtime member of the Elton John Band?

Nigel Olsson became a longtime member of the Elton John Band. The English drummer joined Elton John's working band in the early 1970s and played on many of the albums and tours that defined John's classic period.

Olsson worked closely with bassist Dee Murray and guitarist Davey Johnstone, forming a core band sound heard across major releases such as Honky Château, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Caribou.

His partnership with John extended well beyond the original 1970s run. Although personnel changes later interrupted the classic lineup, Olsson returned repeatedly and remained associated with John for decades, making him one of the most recognizable musicians in the singer's live history.

Roger Pope is a frequent source of confusion because he also played drums for John, including on early recordings and later sessions. Olsson, however, is the drummer most closely identified with the long-running Elton John Band.
