Which driver won the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix?

The story behind the answer

Charles Leclerc won the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix for Ferrari. The race took place on 26 May 2024 at the Circuit de Monaco and delivered a long-awaited home victory for the Monégasque driver.

Leclerc started from pole position and led all 78 laps. Oscar Piastri finished second for McLaren, while Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz completed the podium in third. The result was Leclerc’s first victory since the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix and Ferrari’s first Monaco win since Sebastian Vettel’s success in 2017.

The victory was especially significant because Leclerc became the first Monégasque driver to win the Monaco Grand Prix as a Formula 1 World Championship event. Louis Chiron had won the race in 1931, before the world championship was established in 1950.

The race was also notable for an unusual classification: the top ten finishers crossed the line in the same order in which they had started. A first-lap crash involving Sergio Pérez, Kevin Magnussen, and Nico Hülkenberg caused a red flag and a lengthy interruption.
