Which driver won the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship?

Max Verstappen won the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship. Driving for Red Bull Racing, he secured his fourth consecutive World Drivers’ Championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix with two races still remaining.

Verstappen dominated the opening part of the season, winning seven of the first ten races and building a substantial points advantage. McLaren’s Lando Norris became his main title rival as McLaren’s car improved, but Verstappen’s consistency kept him ahead even when Red Bull was no longer clearly the fastest team.

The championship was confirmed in Las Vegas on 23 November 2024. Verstappen finished fifth, one place ahead of Norris, which made the points gap impossible to overcome. He became only the sixth driver to win at least four Formula One drivers’ titles, joining legends such as Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel, Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull did not win the constructors’ title that year; McLaren took that championship.
