Which driver is the only woman to score points in a Formula One race?

The story behind the answer

Lella Lombardi is the only woman to score points in a Formula One World Championship race.

She achieved the milestone at the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix at Montjuïc, finishing sixth in a March 751. The race was stopped after 29 of its scheduled 75 laps following a fatal accident involving Rolf Stommelen’s car and several spectators.

Because less than 60 percent of the planned distance had been completed, the regulations awarded half-points. Lombardi therefore received 0.5 championship points rather than a full point. That unusual scoring detail is why some accounts describe her as the only woman to score “a point,” while others more precisely say she scored half a point.

Maria Teresa de Filippis was the first woman to start a World Championship Grand Prix, in 1958, but she never scored. Susie Wolff and Giovanna Amati also competed in Formula One-related sessions or attempts without earning championship points. Lombardi made 12 Grand Prix starts between 1974 and 1976.
