Which driver has the nickname 'The Iceman'?

The story behind the answer

Kimi Räikkönen is the Formula One driver known by the nickname “The Iceman.” The name reflects his famously calm, reserved manner, especially during tense races and media appearances. Former McLaren team boss Ron Dennis is widely credited with giving him the nickname.

Räikkönen entered Formula One with Sauber in 2001 after competing in only a small number of single-seater races. His speed quickly earned him a move to McLaren, where he became a regular title contender. In 2007, his first season with Ferrari, he won the Drivers’ Championship by a single point over Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

The nickname describes more than his quiet personality. Räikkönen often appeared emotionally detached under pressure and was known for direct, dry radio messages. His “Leave me alone, I know what I’m doing” exchange during his 2012 Abu Dhabi victory became part of F1 folklore. He retired at the end of 2021 with 21 Grand Prix wins.
