Which Dragons' Den investor was the founder of Amstrad?

The story behind the answer

Alan Sugar was the founder of Amstrad, although he was not a regular dragon on the British programme Dragons' Den.

Sugar founded Amstrad in 1968. The company became known for consumer electronics, including personal computers, satellite television equipment and other home technology. His success made him a prominent British businessman and a familiar figure in television.

The distinction matters because Sugar is strongly associated with televised business competitions, especially The Apprentice, where he serves as the central business figure. Dragons' Den has a separate rotating group of investors, including Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden and other dragons.

Amstrad is therefore a useful comparison when identifying business backgrounds, but Alan Sugar should not be described as one of the regular Dragons' Den investors. His television role belongs chiefly to The Apprentice.
