Which Dragon's Den investor was the co-founder of the technology retailer Phones 4u?

The story behind the answer

John Caudwell was the co-founder of the technology retailer Phones 4u.

Caudwell and his brother Brian established Caudwell Group, whose best-known retail business was Phones 4u. The chain grew rapidly during the expansion of the British mobile-phone market and became one of the country's major high-street phone retailers.

John Caudwell appeared as a Dragon in the first series of the British programme. He later became better known for philanthropy through the Caudwell Children charity, which supports disabled children and their families.

He is sometimes omitted from summaries of the show's most familiar investors because his main period on the panel was early. Phones 4u also disappeared from British high streets after the company entered administration in 2014, years after Caudwell had sold his interest.
