Which Dragon's Den investor was known for founding Amstrad?
Answer
Alan Sugar
Answer
Alan Sugar
Alan Sugar was known for founding Amstrad before becoming a Dragon's Den investor.
Sugar founded Amstrad in 1968, initially trading in consumer electronics and later expanding into products including audio equipment, computers and telecommunications. The company's name was formed from the initials of Alan Michael Sugar Trading.
He joined Dragon's Den as a guest investor and became one of the programme's most recognisable business figures. Sugar is also widely associated with The Apprentice, the BBC reality-business series in which candidates compete for a job with him.
A common mix-up is to identify Sugar as an original Dragon's Den investor. The first British panel in 2005 consisted of Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Deborah Meaden, Theo Paphitis and Rachel Elnaugh. Sugar appeared later as a guest dragon, while his long-established business background predated both television roles.
